Nestled just north of the historic town of Fincastle, Virginia is The Preserve at Crooked Run. As you drive down the long winding road to the center of The Preserve, it does not take long to realize that you have entered paradise. Surrounded by the beautiful vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains, fields of wildflowers, and the rustic elegance of the renovated buildings, it is easy to imagine how lovely a wedding or a special event would be in this breathtaking setting. In the center of this 475 acre paradise lies a 5-acre pond, aerated for the native bass and stocked trout that live there.
Khari Ryder and I made a site visit to a new events venue, representing the Botetourt Chamber of Commerce. When we arrived, we met one of the owner’s Joe Thompson, a passionate developer/entrepreneur and Jewell Parfitt, the cabin and event manager. We learned that The Preserve at Crooked Run property formerly housed Camp Fincastle. It has made a significant transformation since those camp days years ago and Joe’s enthusiasm for the transformation that has taken place is contagious. The scenery is what captivates you first as you are immediately introduced to the lush setting of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
There are many opportunities for designing special wedding experiences at The Preserve: from planning a rehearsal dinner, to holding a bridal shower, to arranging an entire weekend wedding retreat, The Preserve can accommodate every possible scenario. It is also a great venue to hold special family events or customized corporate events. Their staff will work with you to customize your special occasion.
The Grand Lodge is the main indoor event lodge. It includes a commercial kitchen for caterers and beautifully designed artisan tables in the main dining area. Passionate Joe has lovingly hand-crafted many of the tables and benches that decorate the room. The indoor dining area opens seamlessly onto a large deck overlooking the sparkling pond, affording guests the opportunity to move inside and outside as desired. This room and the large outdoor deck will accommodate 150 to 250 guests.
As you wander onto The Grand Lodge deck, and look across the expansive pond, there is a lovely view of another open-air pavilion with an inviting infinity pool. This structure is known as Overlook Pavilion and boasts majestic fireplaces and picnic tables to accommodate large gatherings.
Newly renovated cabins are lightly scattered throughout the property, offering a rustic elegance experience to overnight guests. They can easily accommodate 40 guests in their cabins with room to spare for overflow.
The other amenities to enjoy at The Preserve include walking and hiking trails, mountain bike trails, disc golf, croquet, bocce ball, or serenity workouts such as yoga, massage, or meditation. They also cater to sporting enthusiasts with an Orvis designed sporting clays course that celebrates amazing views of the Peaks of Otter and the National Forest.
The Preserve’s website reminds us that they “have the look of a boutique hotel yet set in the middle of fields of wildflowers built with the backdrop of the Blue Ridge mountains.” The Preserve at Crooked Run is a venue you will want to experience soon. It is good for your soul!
